Eggs by the dozen

I was very excited today to receive my first batch of goose eggs from a local home.  If you are not aware, goose eggs are hard to come by at a reasonable price in this field.  I used to own two wonderful African geese, which had been hand raised since they hatched.  They were very friendly and would let me pet them and were wonderful watch dogs honking at anyone that came to my house.  They also knew when it was alright when I told them it was ok.   One unfortunately was eaten by coyotes, something that tends to happen in the country.  Sad, but part of life, and I was not mad at the coyotes for doing so, but sad because I missed my goose.  The other went to a local farm when I moved to house without a pond or barn for them to stay in.  One day soon I expect to have more of my own geese, but until then I am grateful to the family that is willing to sell me the eggs they have!

The Lily and the Hawk Moth

Ukrainian Egg Design By April: LilliesI am sorry I have not posted in a while, I have had a wonderful cold, as you all know how those go. This egg has a white background with various colored lilies on it, one of my favorite flowers, actually I guess I really like all flowers.  Some flowers just rank higher then others.  They are so beautiful and attract so many wonderful things, bees, humming birds, hawks  moths, and the like.  If you have not had the pleasure in seeing a Hawk moth in person, they are a treat.  They’re a mix of a hummingbird and a bee, wings like the bird and fuzzy like the bee, very interesting insects, I love them.

Are these feathers?

Ukrainian Egg Design By April: FeathersThis was done on a whim.  It was made to look oriental, but it ended up looking like feathers, to me any way.  It just goes to show that sometimes what you plan ends up being something neat even though it did not turn out as intended.

Swirly Swirls

Ukrainian Egg by April: Blue and White SwirlsFiligree is always a detail that I have loved.  All the pretty lace like designs remind me of Victorian days when things seemed romantic. These colors on this design stand out in almost a 3-D affect, some of these you just have to see in person.

Does this Star look familiar?

Ukrainian Egg Design by April: Red and Black StarThis egg may look familiar to some, it should.  It was  from the latest contest, one of the lucky winners received this egg.  I was very happy that they liked it.  I always love the feeling that comes along with someone enjoying what I have made.  When I started making these eggs it took me such a long time you would not have been able to separate me from one.  Then I started giving them as gifts.  When I had heard many “you should sell these” comments, I finally decided to.  I always love to hear the comments of happy customer’s stories about how their friend or family member really liked the egg, especially when they hear the way they are made.  Besides, who doesn’t like to hear someone is happy with the work they have done?

Quilts are often unique and a kaleidoscope of colors.

Ukrainian egg design by April: Pink QuiltA design that was done at a friends request.  This is the bottom view.  The whole design represents a quilt done in pink, the favorite color requested.  Some eggs are done with a focus on the main viewing area, the sides, this one has so many lovely vantage  points to look at you may have trouble deciding which one to settle on.

Blizzard? What blizzard? It’s just a little snow.

Ukrainian Egg Design By April: SnowflakeSnowflakes were hard for me to do at first, they are so symmetrical. Trying to make all the branches the same length and even was a challenge, but I think I finally got the hang of it.

These can be done with and color for the background, and if you wish, the snowflake can be done in color too.
